Abstract

Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) in Thailand shows significant development. Along with these developments, evaluating students' language competence needs to be encouraged. Moreover, writing competency as an active-productive competency is considered the most difficult to implement. One evaluation effort that can be carried out is an analysis of language errors using the prefix /me-/ as the most productive affix and must be mastered. This research aims to analyze errors in the use of the prefix /me-/ in Thai BIPA students' writing assignments. The research uses qualitative research with basic data collection techniques in the form of tapping techniques and advanced note-taking techniques. Data analysis uses a language error approach according to Tarigan & Tarigan (2011). The work step for language error analysis is to collect error samples; identify errors; explain errors; classify errors; and evaluate errors. Validity was tested using referential, while reliability was tested using intra-rater. The results of the research showed that seven forms of errors in the use of the prefix /me-/ were found, namely (1) omission of the prefix /me-/; (2) the sound that should be melted is not melted; (3) decay of sounds that should not decay; (4) inaccuracy of consonant sound decay; (5) morph replacement; (6) abbreviation of morphs, and (7) inaccuracy in forming basic shapes. These errors are influenced by individual and external factors. Errors in using the prefix /me-/ as part of language errors need to be prevented and overcome by improving the quality of learning and continuous evaluation of language competence.
