Svetlana Sergeeva, Irina Gladilina, Natalia Bulochnikova, Gennady Degtev

Abstract

The article aims at analyzing academic integrity as a legal category and as an indicator of legal culture. It emphasizes the importance of implementing and upholding the fundamental values of academic integrity by all participants in the educational process. These values must be prioritized in the development of the Russian scientific and educational environment. Many academic integrity violations in educational institutions lead to significant risks in the delivery of educational activities and have a negative impact on educational outcomes. Such violations normalize deviant behavior and diminish the intellectual and moral potential of society. Therefore, academic integrity should serve as the foundation for affirming the value of education and a driving force for its advancement. The article demonstrates that the lack of a clear legal definition hinders a proper understanding of academic integrity and prevents a consistent interpretation of what actions can be considered honest. The challenges of maintaining academic integrity are directly linked to its legal regulation. The article highlights that the enforcement of legal order in this area must be based on legislative provisions that are drafted and adopted in a manner that fully complies with the standards of legal drafting. Finally, the key features of academic integrity as a legal category are identified
